All In Perspective

Concentration is the ability to think about absolutely nothing when it is absolutely necessary.

Life Lessons from a Three Year Old July 24, 2008

My wife and I recently decided to enroll my three year old into her first gymnastic class. Tomorrow will be her first day but even though she has yet to take one lesson she is certain she will be successful at it. How do I know this? Well I asked her today if she was ready to go to her first class tomorrow and learn how to do gymnastics. I expected a response like “sure dad” or a simple “yes” but what I got was a life lesson on confidence from my three year old. She looked at me with all 3′4 of herself and stared her big brown eyes into mine and said, “Daddy I know I am ready”. I said well how do you know you are ready? My three year old looked at me again with an expression of confusion that i did not already know the answer and said, “Because I already know how to jump and swing on the playground so I am ready for something harder”. My three year old’s confidence made me realize that if she could have confidence in her abilities to do something she doesn’t understand, what is stopping me from maximizing my own abilities, having confidence in myself and trying to do something harder and greater with the gifts that God has given me.

Just putting it all in perspective….

That is one pretty little girl. She must get those good looks and confidence from her mama!

    Hey Joe,

The infinite wisdom of children amazes me. So simple, yet so profound. If only we could all attack life in it’s simplest form! Baby girl is ahead of her time already! BTW- love the blog! Keep writing and I’ll keep reading! :)
